Yorkshire – Askham Bog
June 10 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday 10 Jun
10:30 Askham Bog – near York (YWT nature reserve)
Meeting Place – The YWT car park (SE 575 481, satnav 53.92429 -1.12607) that can only be accessed off the A64 travelling east. If approaching from the east you need to go past the reserve to the Askham Bryan turnoff (the northern ring road) and back onto the A64 eastbound and turn off at the next junction for Copmanthorpe. The car park is on the left at the traffic lights.
Don’t overshoot or you’ll have to do it all again.
Going – Easy (KT1-2), could be wet and splodgy in places.
Footwear – Boots or wellies
Food – Packed lunch.
Notes – Prof Alistair Fitter (The expert who has studied the reserve for many years – decades!) will join us and guide us on this visit and is interested to see if we can refind some rarities like Dryopteris cristata. We will see some of the magnificent Osmunda regalis plants and Thelypteris palustris as well as the usual old favourites like Pteridium aquilinum. Midges may be a problem.
Leaders – Barry Wright, Alastair Fitter.
