SE: Marline Valley, near Hastings, and ghylls near Crowhurst

I am hoping we will be joined by the Hastings botany Club for this meeting, which will explore some of the Sussex ghylls, including a nature reserve the Society has not been to before. These deep and wooded ghylls are rich in ferns and most of the classic wealden flora. Stephen Munyard has kindly offered to entertain us after the meeting. An opportunity to see Steve’s fascinating garden.

Last year, the Society put on a two today event for the RHS, in the Gallery of the Glasshouse at Wisley. This was appreciated by the RHS, and was very successful for us. A return trip to this rich site for alpine flora, including some interesting ferns and even more interesting fern allies. Last year we got waylaid by clubmosses, moonwort and various other delights, and never made it as far as the summit and beyond, where mountain bladder fern and holly fern are reputed to be found. You may have seen the article by Fred Rumsey “A new national Pillwort Survey” in the 2015 edition of The Pteridologist Vol 6 Part 2 p161.
