CONSTITUTION OF THE GREENFIELD FUND
OF
THE BRITISH PTERIDOLOGICAL SOCIETY

1. The Trustees of the Greenfield Fund of the British Pteridological Society shall be the President, Honorary General Secretary and Treasurer.

2. The Fund shall consist of:
a. monies donated to the Society by Mrs Elizabeth Greenfield.
b. other monies donated by other persons to the Fund.
c. any monies yet to be realised by an identified source and agreed by an AGM
d. interest thereon.

3. The Trustees may make grants from the interest earned by the Fund for any activities which, in their opinion, will further the knowledge, conservation and understanding of pteridophytes in the field of horticulture, or further promote this aim of the Society by enabling, preferably, younger active members and non-professional pteridologist members to play a fuller part in the Society by helping with the cost of necessary equipment, books and travel.

4. Recipients should be BPS members of at least two year’s standing. A member of at least two year’s standing may make an application on behalf of a non-member or a member of less than two years’ standing.

5. Any application for a grant must be in writing to the Honorary General Secretary, who will provide an Application Form. A successful applicant must send a report on the completed work to the Honorary General Secretary indicating, if applicable, where any results are to be published. The Society reserves the right to publish the report in any of its journals.

6. The Trustees shall decide whether a grant shall be made. They may, however, seek advice from others whom they consider to have specialist knowledge. Such persons may be outside of the Society if there is no Member deemed suitable.

7. The Trustees may also permit the use of the interest earned by the Fund to support activities of the Society provided that those activities in their opinion, will further the knowledge, conservation and understanding of pteridophytes in the field of horticulture. The Trustees shall have regard to the likelihood of the Society being able to reimburse the Fund. No interest is to be charged by the Fund to the Society.

8. The balance of the Fund shall be deposited in an account or accounts in the name of the British Pteridological Society with any recognised Bank or Building Society.

9. The Trustees shall ensure that the account of the Fund is available to members within twelve months after the end of each calendar year.

10. If the Society is wound up, the trustees shall ensure that the balance on the Fund is donated to another organisation or organisations with similar objectives in the fields of botany, conservation and horticulture.
