Capo di Ponte, Italy
May 17, 2014 - May 24, 2014
Saturday 17 – Saturday 24 May 2014
Capo di Ponte lies to the north-west of Lake Garda, in the north of Italy, between Brescia and the Dolomites, which form a border with Switzerland. The immediate area is of great interest, forming a bridge between the Mediterranean geography and climate to the south, and the high alpine mountains to the north. it lies on a division between acid rocks and the limestone of the Dolomites.
In Capo di Ponte itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a National Park containing extraordinary prehistoric rock carvings. Enzo’s wife is a guide here. There are also a number of Romanesque churches with medieval paintings, which Enzo has written about. The beautiful Val Camonica area was “discovered” and written about in 1800 by Douglas William Freshfield, whom you may like to look up. Travel will be by shared hire cars, and hotel accommodation is being negotiated. The trip will be limited to 16 members, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis on receipt of a deposit — see separate flier with Autumn Mailing.
