EA: Catfield Fen and Gill & Bryan Smith’s garden

June 29 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

Visit to Catfield Hall, east Norfolk, for Dryopteris cristata, Crested Buckler Fern and
the hybrid x uliginosa

Catfield Hall is situated in the Norfolk Broads, the stronghold of the Swallowtail butterfly. June is the main flight period of the Swallowtail so we may be lucky enough to see them if it is a sunny day.
The visit to Catfield Hall is with the kind permission of Mr and Mrs Tim Harris. The duration of the visit will be 1.5 to 2 hours. If time allows we may be able to visit the neighbouring Catfield Fen, Butterfly Conservation Reserve.

WELLIES ARE ESSENTIAL and insect repellant is advisable, also checking yourself for ticks. If you favour the belt and braces approach then a change of clothing would not be excessive. I have needed it in the past!

Directions to Catfield Hall are as follows, also see attached map.
From Catfield village travel in a westerly direction towards the church, visible by its tower. Continue in a westerly direction towards Fenside and Catfield Hall will be on your left.. Grid ref: TG 378 214.
Post code NR29 5DB. Parking is beside the Hall. Lavatories will be available in the barns.

Following this visit we will meet at the home of Bryan and Gill Smith to visit their garden.
Gill will provide lunch.
