N: BPS Autumn Meeting at the Natural History Museum: Herbaria

November 18 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

INDOOR MEETING
It is many years since a meeting at the Natural History Museum included a visit to the Herbarium,
so many members have not had the opportunity to view this and to see some of the treasures in the
NHM collections.
Talks will cover such topics as the history of herbaria including the NHM collections, uses of herbaria and their continuing relevance, and the NHM Fern Herbarium. Tours will enable visits not only to the Fern Herbarium, which houses some 300,000 specimens of ferns from around the world, but also to the fascinating historical Sloane Herbarium that houses our earliest collections preserved in huge bound volumes, and the Botanical Library, where a display of amazing books and artwork will be staged.
Venue: Flett Theatre, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD
Meeting Point: Flett Theatre entrance, Exhibition Road (adjacent to public entrance)

Lunch Information: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Bring your own lunch, or take advantage of the various NHM cafes or food outlets in South Kensington.
Contact information: Please confirm attendance if you plan to attend this meeting; contact Alison Paul by email at a.paul@nhm.ac.uk
Numbers are required for catering purposes and to facilitate organising the tours.
Further information will be available in due course.
