Scottish Group: Creag Tronach, Dunkeld: Asplenium septentrionale monitoring
April 3, 2016 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm
Meet at Creag Tronach, near Dunkeld. Parking on a forest track near the site, to
be confirmed.
Bring a packed lunch. Initially, walking on a path to the first site, but later the
terrain becomes more difficult (some slopes and loose soil and can be muddy).
We did a reconnaissance trip to this site in March 2015 and saw more than 130
A.septentrionale plants, including one possible hybrid. The hybrid grows on a
ledge, was not readily accessible, but was identified by photography as a potential
for Asplenium x murbeckii. Historically there is also a record for Asplenium x
alternifolium (recorded in 1992). By focusing on the Creag Tronach site we hope
to get a better idea of actual plant numbers at the site, confirmation of the
presence of at least one hybrid, and some good photos.
