South Wales & Borders Group – Picton Castle Gardens
October 1, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm
Visit to Picton Castle Gardens in Pembrokeshire, with indoor meeting.
For our final visit of the year we are going to the far south west of our range to visit a fern garden in balmy Pembrokeshire. There are ferns throughout this large and varied garden, but they are particularly notable in the wooded areas, where there are British natives and exotic species including tree ferns, and in the fernery in an old walled garden. We’re very grateful to Roddy Milne, the Head Gardener, BPS member and keen fern grower, for agreeing to show us round the garden.
We will be arranging a buffet lunch in the café associated with the garden, and using their lecture theatre for an indoor session which will include a talk on the garden. The order of events is flexible and we will decide the running order influenced by the weather at the time. We have not yet planned the indoor part in detail, but would be grateful for any items of interest members may bring along. Plants for a swap between members would also be appreciated.
We will need to know numbers in advance, and we will also have a choice of buffets to select. We will be seeking answers to these questions when we send out an update in August.
Meeting at 10.30 at Picton Castle Visitors car park (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, SA62 4AS, SN 008 134). There will be a charge of £6 per person, excluding lunch.
