WS: Dryopteris submontana survey near Merthyr Tydfil and Dockerill’s garden near Pontypridd
July 20 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
The BPS is renewing its fern monitoring activities and we would like the local group to play a part. We have the ideal opportunity with the colony of Dryopteris submontana nearby just north of Merthyr Tydfil around SO 023 097. This is its most southerly site in the UK and so may well be vulnerable to climate change and its continuing health is of great interest. Limestone outcrops nearby add further to the fern interest of the area.
As we live so close by, we would like to add to the field outing by inviting you to visit our garden here near Pontypridd at a ST 07229 92417 in the afternoon.
The plan for the day will start by meeting in the car park of Merthyr Tydfil Golf Club at SO 03087 08488 at 10.30. Stout footwear will be needed for this part of the day.
We can then drive to our home where we expect to be able to offer some lunch followed by a wander around the garden.
