Y: Strensall pillwort survey and translocation

June 15 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Meeting Place – Meet in the large car park just as you leave Strensall heading north. Turn right down a lane near the 19 on the map (one-way – exit via the one-way NE as shown on the map) where it says to the Defence Training Estates North, bear right and the car park is a short way down on the left at SE 63565 59813 (54.03192 x -1.03173).
Going – Wet at pond edges, tussocky grass and heather (KT1-2). Footwear – Boots of wellies if you want to enter the water to see Pillwort Food – Packed lunch
Notes – This is the only non-firing Saturday we could get, but there should be acceptable water levels to check on the translocations. The other translocation dates will have to be week days (contact Barry to find out when these will be). Our tasks are to check on the success of the translocations done in 2018 and translocate more plants to other suitable candidate ponds, subject to water levels. We also hope to collect sporocarps for later introduction to ponds that we know will dry out and move these into the dry pond beds ready for the autumn rains. And also check 3 concrete drains that had Pillwort in back in 1986!
