Y: Woodsia monitoring – Teesdale

June 26, 2019 @ 11:00 am - June 27, 2019 @ 3:00 pm

Meeting Places – Meet at 11.15 on day 1, Wednesday 26th, at the gate of the road down to Widdybank, NY84700 30953 where we will car share to first visit the Natural England base at Widdybank Farm. Bring a packed lunch. We will then drive to the Tinkler site for an afternoon of monitoring. Some people are staying over at the Langdon Beck Hotel, and as of 12th June there is a spare room if anyone else wants to join – let Laurence Sutton know on 07880 721330 by the 15th if you are interested.
We will discuss the plan for the second day, Thursday 27th, but it is likely that we will meet about 9:30 am at the car park at NY 86732 29813 and take a long walk to the Cronkley site which will involve a steep scramble at the end. More refined details to be had by phoning Laurence on 07880 721330 at the time.
Going – KT3-4. Some scrambling on potentially slippery rocks so usual outdoor gear required.
Food – Packed lunch
Footwear – Boots
Notes – It’s best to keep in touch with the team, Laurence, Alison, Bruce in case things change, especially if you can only go on day 2. The leaders plan to stay overnight and Laurence welcomes you to join them for an evening meal on the Wednesday at the Langdon Beck.
Leaders – Laurence Sutton, Alison Evans, Bruce Brown.

  1. May I know the result of your monitoring of W. ilvensis, please.
Could you give me, in general terms, details of the Cronkley site, please.
I am not a member of BPS. I am researching James Backhouse Senior’s discovery of W. ilvensis on Falcon Clints in 1821 (first seen in 1811?). Several of your members have been very helpful.
    I hope you can oblige.
    Thank you,
    Dr. Frank Horsman FLS
