For a couple of years now, we have been supporting this weekend-long event which showcases a variety of plant societies, and BPS will again have a stand here. With a large display of ferns, we will be promoting the appreciation of ferns, fern growing and of course, the benefits of being a member of BPS. Last June, on behalf of the BPS, we led a “ferny walk” for a journalist and photographer from Country Walking Magazine and we expect the resultant article to be published in 2019. N: Scotland, Rarities and Specialities

July 1 - July 31

This will be a week-long meeting to see rare and special ferns in Scotland. Exact dates in Mid-July have yet to be decided, but it will be based around 2 or 3 centres from the north-east coast to Arran in the west. Please note that some of the sites will involve significant hill walking and scrambling, so a good level of fitness will be required. Numbers will be imited.

WS: The garden of Tim Brock and Cors Caron National Nature Reserve

We last visited Tim and his garden in 2014 when, despite him having not lived there very long, his collection of Asplenium scolopendrium cultivars was already well established. Since then the collection has expanded, not least as a result of his extensive hybridisations, and he has now added a 30` by 10` shade tunnel. Dryopteris submontana (Rigid Buckler-fern) is almost completely confined to limestone habitats in the Yorkshire Dales and South Cumbria with only a small number of plants elsewhere Meet at 1030 in the car park at SK 156563 on the A515 Buxton Road, south of Newhaven.
