'Moulzie Burn'
Athyrium filix-feminaA new 'Gemmatum' with green stems and of tall stature height so far 90cm (3ft).Gemmatums have tight ball like crests on the tip of the fronds and pinnae. At present I am aware of three forms; this one, 'Barnes' which is smaller and also has green stems, and 'Bolton' which is a large-growing red stemmed form.Generally as for species. Will grow in most soils but prefers acid conditions; as someone says in good 'woodland duff'. Also best in light shade but will tolerate some sun in the morning and evening, or more if in damp conditions.Roger Golding / Julian Reed
