BPS Display Weekend Wisley

The BPS held a special event at Wisley on the 5th and 6th August. The object of the show was to increase the profile of ferns and the society with the general public.
This featured a large display of ferns, including a stand of ferns that had recently won a silver-gilt medal at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. The team of volunteers were brilliant. Thank you to Peter Clare, Jude Lawton, Gill and Bryan Smith, Julian Reed, Roger Golding, Peter Tindley, Pat Acock and Yasmine Baksh-Comeau. We would also like to thank Yvette Harvey and Barry Phillips from the Wisley herbarium for their display of herbarium specimens, including ferns, to show how useful the herbarium is.
Peter Tindley presented demonstrations of spore sowing. Other society members led three fern walks through the grounds of Wisley. Plant sales and merchandise looked after by Gill and Bryan Smith, were very popular.
The event was very well attended by the public, enjoying many good conversations and the opportunity to identify ferns. We were especially delighted to welcome some new members.
It was great fun for all the public and members alike. The feeling was that we should do this again next year!
